How to add an unsubscribe link to your emails
by Frida Ekelund
When sending emails via Promote, it’s important that recipients can easily choose to unsubscribe from future messages. Not only does this create a better experience for the recipient – it’s also an important part of complying with regulations and building trust. In this guide, we’ll show you how to add an unsubscribe link to your emails.
Why is unsubscribe important?
Including an unsubscribe link means that you:
- Give the recipient control over their communication
- Reduce the risk of your emails being marked as spam
- Comply with applicable regulations and best practices for email
In short: better deliverability and happier recipients.
How to do it – step by step
-
Open your email in the editor
Go to your email in Promote and open the editing view. -
Add a text block (Paragraph)
Scroll to the bottom of your email and drag in a text block where you want to place the unsubscribe link (usually in the footer). -
Write your unsubscribe text
For example:
“Don’t want to receive more emails? Unsubscribe here.” -
Highlight the text that should be clickable
For example, highlight “Unsubscribe here” in the text. -
Select special link → Unsubscribe
Click the link icon in the editor, choose Special link and then Unsubscribe.
This automatically connects the link to the recipient’s subscription settings. -
How it works for the recipient
When the recipient clicks the link, they are taken to a page where they can manage their subscriptions. There, they can:- Unsubscribe from a specific type of email
- Or choose to unsubscribe from all email types
This allows the recipient to control what communication they want to receive going forward.
-
Style as needed
Adjust text size, color and placement so that it is clear but not distracting.
Tips
- Place the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email – where recipients expect to find it
- Make it clear but not distracting
- Use a friendly and clear tone
- Save the block with your unsubscribe link so you can easily reuse it in other emails
